A supportive space
We keep it quite simple, the space we meet in gives you a chance to talk through things, and in the talking you will find things get clearer and we have time to come to terms with what has happened. We will look for some opportunities to do things differently, or to take some steps in a different direction. You will have support and get clarity all the way through.
I will take care of the work we do, through ethical and confidential working in line with BACP accreditation and regular supervision.
You have regular, supportive sessions, which are focused on your needs rather than my methods of working. These are some of the ideas I hold as a good basis to work from.
The toolbox
How we think is close to how we feel. If we make changes to either thoughts or feelings we will have a lot more space to work in. It is important to get clarity around feelings and thoughts. The way we evaluate ourselves, generates powerful feelings.
We tend to understand ourselves through “telling a story” about our life experiences. In this story we weave the events on the ground with our beliefs and values. We share the responsibilities for “how it happened” with the circumstances in which we live. Unearthing the story and possible other stories that lie along side it, brings alive a range of richer possibilities and perspectives.
Suffering is an inevitable part of life. Through avoiding pain and trying to control feelings the difficulties are usually increased. Acceptance of events and willingness to work provide conditions of positive change.
Living in the now, the present moment, enriches our experience through a range of senses and specifically re-aligns our feeling states and our dependence on habitual thought patterns. Extending our conception of ourselves, beyond an isolated self, to being a organic part of friendly connections we have gives us the space to handle what appear to be private events which might seem threatening.
